The City of Beaverton’s Community Development Department performs four primary functions that are vital to the economic prosperity and livability of Beaverton: Planning Services, Building Services, Economic Development, Urban & Downtown Redevelopment. In September 2009 Don was hired to direct the department. Beaverton’s press release announcing the hiring can be found at: www.beavertonoregon.gov/government/press2009/CddDirector9-16-09.pdf Don will visit us this month to introduce himself and offer a few comments on the areas north of Hwy 26 that Beaverton annexed and what they're doing for it, plus he will describe the city's general position on annexing new land. His presentation will focus on the process of creating a new civic plan for Beaverton this year including how it will evolve to deal with the need for sustainable urban communities and a rapidly increasing elderly population, among other subjects. In an article in the Beaverton Valley Times, Dec 3, 2009, the questions to be answered by the new civic plan are: 1) How does the city of Beaverton define itself and want to define itself? 2) What is the city’s ultimate size and shape? 3) Where is downtown Beaverton? 4) How are all the past and present city studies and planning efforts linked? 5) How are the Beaverton community vision aspirations and priorities incorporated into the civic plan? |
